Malavika Kannan Appointed to AAR's International Connections Committee

 Malavika Kannan has been appointed to the American Academy of Religion's International Connections Committee (ICC) for a four year term (January 1, 2027 - December 31, 2030).  In this role, she will collaborate with the committee to meet its goals and help with planning and programming. She will also serve as a juror for the grant competition.

Prof. Mairaj Syed Awarded Fulbright to Egypt

We congratulate Prof. Mairaj Syed, who has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Egypt. Prof. Syed's project focuses on his computational hadith studies monograph, which introduces computational and large-scale data methods for studying the development of hadith literature during the first three centuries of Islam.

Brent Horning Appointed to the Chancellor’s Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board

Brent Horning (Graduate Student in the Study of Religion) has been appointed to the Chancellor’s Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board (CGPSA) for the 24'-25' academic year to advocate for graduate and professional students, and advise the Chancellor's Office accordingly. His primary goals are promoting involvement of the Department of Religion, Culture, and Society in campus-wide issues like AI Ethics, and streamlining accessibility of student resources.

UC Davis in Top 10 of Nation’s Public Universities for 5th Year

School pride will be swelling among University of California, Davis, students as they start fall classes Wednesday (Sept. 24).

The campus tied for No. 9 among the nation’s top public universities and earned accolades for innovation, social mobility and more in the 2026 U.S. News Best Colleges rankings, published Monday (Sept. 22).

This is the fifth consecutive year the campus has been ranked among the media outlet’s top 10 public universities.
